Weston, it could easily be listed as one of the time warp towns. Pre-war beauties; a row of old shops, a jetty which is 100 years old, the oldest wooden school in Borneo makes Weston one of its kind. Weston is about 2 hours drive southwest from Kota Kinabalu.

Weston is named after A.J. West, a railway engineer and is known as the west port of North Borneo Railway ending point where the “giant ships and trains” meet. Weston offers a wide array of wildlife such as proboscis monkey, silvered langur, birds, snakes and many more. It also has various aquatic wildlife such as mudskippers, otters, crocodiles and river prawn.

When visiting Weston, a range of activities awaits. You will get to see what is known as the carnivorous plant, the pitcher plant, which grows wildly in Weston. You will then visit the town where you will get to witness the pre-war beauties Weston has to offer such as a jetty which is 100 years old and the oldest wooden school in Borneo. After sightseeing in town, hop on a boat to have lunch at the rest house which is about 10 minutes away from town. Next, after a hefty lunch, try out a more adventurous activity like mud trekking or jungle trekking, maybe burn off some calories why you are at it!

Weston has a high population of proboscis monkey and it is almost effortless to spot one during the river cruise. Finally, end your visit by experiencing a night cruise with glows of fireflies lighting up the trees of Weston River, a sight not to be missed.
